On Saturday, Australia defeated India by seven runs to win the fourth women’s T20 International match and seal the series by 3-1. India needed to score 181 runs to win the match, but they fell 7 runs short in 20 overs with captain Harmanpreet Kaur leading the way with 46 off 30 balls. Earlier, Australia scored 188 for 3 after being asked to bat. Ellyse Perry led the way with 72 not out, and Ashleigh Gardner added 42. Deepti Sharma took two wickets for India, and Radha Yadav took one after Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain, decided to bowl. Australia had previously won the first and third Twenty20 Internationals, while India had won the second game.
Richa Ghosh’s exhilarating cameo was in vain as India lost the close game with another failure. The result of their valiant fight to the bitter end was that they lost the series to the world champions. Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma made a valiant effort when India needed 38 from the final two overs, but Megan Schutt kept her composure when India needed 10 from the final two deliveries. Australia eventually won by 7 runs to take a commanding 3-1 series lead.
