Sam Curran, an English all-rounder, made his IPL debut in 2019 with Punjab Kings after placing third in the auction. In the T20 World Cup 2022, he was named the tournament’s best player. He was released by the Punjab Kings ahead of the 2020 IPL auction and purchased by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for Rs 5.5 crore that year.
The bidding war was started as soon as the player was presented. Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals were fighting and the price was 10 crores in no time. Then CSK came back and they fought with Rajasthan Royals. Mumbai decided to back out after the price went above 12 crore. It went to cross ₹15 crore and was ultimately sold to Punjab Kings

At last, Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings were fighting for Sam and this bidding battle was won by Punjab Kings.
