Robin Uthappa has officially joined the Dubai league (ILT20) and signed a contract with the Dubai Capitals franchise. He became the first Indian player to participate in the new league, which will take place in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi in January and February.

The Dubai Capitals franchise, owned by the GMR Group, co-owners of the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), made a late bid for the former India international after the league’s recruitment rules were changed. Previously, the squad size was limited to 18 people: 12 foreign players, two associate players, and four UAE cricketers. The new rules allow franchises to increase their squad size to 25 players if they have enough money.

Uthappa is the 19th player to join the Dubai Capitals, which also includes Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka, West Indian Rovman Powell, New Zealander Fabian Allen, Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Zimbabwe star Sikandar Raza.
