After suspending crucial services for Russian users earlier this year, social media company TikTok announced on Friday that it would reduce the size of its Russian workforce, according to RIA Novosti, which cited the company’s press office.
“This year, we were forced to take a number of decisions regarding the operation of our service in Russia and now, unfortunately, we have had to reduce the number of employees in the country,” the company said in a statement (to RIA).
Livestreaming and new uploads on the Chinese-owned video app TikTok were stopped in Russia after Moscow tightened its control over new media following its invasion of Ukraine in February.
