According to a mouthpiece for the Chinese Communist party, President Xi Jinping of China has directed the People’s Liberation Army to “focus all its energy on fighting” in preparation for war.

Based on a report in People’s Daily that included images of Xi Jinping in an army uniform during a visit to a command centre, Xi Jinping stated that the army needed to “comprehensively strengthen military training in preparation for war.”In the Communist Party’s Congress, Xi Jinping had earlier issued a warning of impending “dangerous storms.”

“Focus all [your] energy on fighting, work hard on fighting and improve [your] capability to win,” Xi Jinping was quoted as saying. The army must also “resolutely defend national sovereignty and national security” as China was in an “unstable and uncertain” security situation, he further reportedly said.

A similar directive was also issued by Xi Jinping in 2013, shortly after he became office, and once more in 2017.

Xi Jinping made a veiled attack on the US’ growing backing for Taiwan at the Communist party gathering, blaming “foreign interference” for escalating tensions. Xi Jinping had then declared, “We will never vow to renounce the use of force.” He regards annexing Taiwan as a crucial component of his legacy.
