Friday will see the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bengaluru, where he will inaugurate a number of new initiatives, including the opening of a second terminal at the city’s Kempegowda International Airport.

In addition, PM Modi will inaugurate a 108-foot-tall bronze statue of Bengaluru’s founder, Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, on the grounds of the airport and launch the first Vande Bharat Express for southern India, which will run along the Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysuru route.

The state spent 5,000 crores on the new terminal, which is designed to pay homage to one of Bengaluru’s earlier nicknames, Garden City, according to news agency ANI. Passengers are expected to enjoy a “walk in the garden” while using this terminal.

The second terminal, which is scheduled to open in December, will have twice as many immigration and check-in desks and twice as much capacity to handle passengers, which will relieve the original terminal of some of its congestion.

The terminal can accommodate five to six crore passengers yearly.

Additionally, it has about 10,000 square metres of indigenously constructed outdoor gardens, hanging gardens, and green walls. The terminal will also be promoted by officials as environmentally friendly.
