As per the reports Sony Group Corp is thinking about constructing a new factory in the Japanese prefecture of Kumamoto. According to the Nikkan Kogyo newspaper, Sony is planning to spend about 800 billion yen ($ 5.83 billion) to construct a factory in western Japan to manufacture smartphone image sensors.

According to The Nikkei, given worries about a slowdown in the global economy, the Japanese electronics and entertainment conglomerate “would carefully consider the timing of the construction and the size of the investment.”

The Sony semiconductor division’s spokesman declined to respond to questions regarding the Nikkei report. After the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global supply chains, major economies, including the United States and Japan, rushed to increase domestic chip production.
