Walmart looking for suppliers for toys and bicycles from India in move to raise exports till $10 billion

US-based retailer Walmart is looking to source toys, shoes, and bicycles from Indian suppliers as the company is targeting to increase it export from India by $10 billion by 2027.

The company also wishes to add new suppliers to their list in categories such as food, pharmaceuticals, consumables, health and wellness, and apparel and home textiles, a company spokesperson told PTI.

Officials from the headquarters of the retail giant recently held a virtual meeting with several domestic toy manufacturers here. The company informed toy makers about their requirements and expected quality standards as it is directly engaging with the domestic toy makers for sourcing.

Another global retailer such as IKEA is already sourcing toys from India for their international operations.

This move by Walmart proves to be significant and highlights India’s growing strength in the field of toys, since the nation was a net importers of toys, a few years back.

The development was confirmed by a spokesperson of the retail giant, who said that the company is looking forward to expanding their work with existing as well as new suppliers from India, in categories such as food, consumables, health and wellness, pharmaceuticals, and home textiles.

Earlier this month, Walmart Inc President and CEO Doug McMillon, during his visit to India, had reaffirmed his commitment of raising the export from India up to $10 billion by 2027. He cited the unique ecosystem of suppliers as the reason behind growth.
