Top 10 Telecom companies in India:

1. Reliance Jio 

Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited is a part of Reliance Industries Ltd owned by billionaire Mukesh Ambani. Founded in 2007, Jio operates an LTE network across all 22 telecom circles. Currently, Jio provides a high-speed 4G network & is also working on 5G & 6G networks. Jio is the largest mobile network operator in India with an annual revenue of $12 billion in FY20-21.

2. Bharti Airtel

Airtel is the second-largest mobile operator in India & operates in more than 18 countries. Bharti Airtel was founded in 1995 by Sunil Bharti Mittal & is now one of the leading telcos in the world. In FY21, Airtel’s revenue was recorded at $13 billion.

3. Vi

Vodafone Idea Ltd also known as Vi was formed in 2018 after the merger of telcos Vodafone Ltd & Idea. It is headquartered in Mumbai & is the 3rd largest network operator in India. Vi is currently in decline due to its poor services as compared to other telcos. Vi reported an annual revenue of $5.5 billion in FY21.

4. BSNL

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is a government-owned network provider. It operates under the Ministry of Communication of the  Government of India. The Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) is also a subsidiary of BSNL. It recorded an annual revenue of $2.4 billion in 2020-21.

Indus Towers Ltd is a telecom infrastructure provider. It is a part of a joint venture between Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea Ltd. Indus Towers has the widest coverage in India. The telco has an annual revenue of $2 billion.

GTL Infrastructures Ltd is a private telecom tower company. It has towers located across all 22 telecom circles through which it provides 2G, 3G & 4G services.

Himachal Futuristic Communications Ltd was founded in 1987 by Mahendra Nahata. The company is involved in the manufacturing, research & development of technology in the telecom sector. It provides a network through optic fibre cables.

8. Tata Communications Ltd

Tata Communications was founded in 1986. Previously it was known as Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL). The Government of India sold the VSNL to the Tata Group. The telco has an annual revenue of $2.2 billion in 2021.
