A top Russian official referred to Ukraine’s application for NATO membership as propaganda and warned that the West is aware of the effects of Ukraine joining NATO and that it is certain that Ukraine’s admittance into NATO will escalate the current conflict into World War Three.

“Kyiv is well aware that such a step would mean a guaranteed escalation to World War Three,” TASS quoted Alexander Venediktov, the deputy secretary of Russia’s Security Council, as saying.

On September 30, as Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly proclaimed the annexation of 18% of Ukraine’s territory, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Ukraine’s request to expedite the NATO membership process.

The inclusion of Ukraine requires the agreement of all 30 members, therefore, for the time being, it is far from being a reality.

The Security Council’s deputy secretary and a significant ally of President Vladimir Putin, Alexander Venediktov, cautioned that granting Ukraine full NATO membership would be suicide.

“The suicidal nature of such a step is understood by NATO members themselves,” he said.

In response to what it describes as a “terrorist attack” by Ukrainian forces on the Kerch bridge, which connects the Russian mainland with the Crimean Peninsula, Russia has been pounding Ukraine heavily, even in residential areas. The warning comes at the same time.

President Vladimir Putin has criticised the US for pushing NATO’s eastward expansion on numerous occasions, in particular for courting former Soviet nations like Georgia and Ukraine that Russia believes to be within its sphere of influence.

The Russian President has repeatedly threatened to use nuclear weapons to defend his country from any attack, and he has even underlined that the threat cannot be dismissed as a “bluff.”

According to US Vice President Joe Biden, the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis was followed by a greater threat of nuclear Armageddon to the globe today.
