Elon Musk keen on Tesla manufacturing in India; CEO likely to finalise location by end of this year

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Tuesday that the automaker will probably finalise the location for Indian factory by the end of this year.

Musk was asked, at an event by the Wall Street Journal’s Thorold Barker, on if he thinks India is interesting. To which, the founder of Tesla replied saying, “Absolutely.”

India’s deputy minister for technology, in an interview with Reuters last week, shared that the US based automaker is “serious” about developing a manufacturing unit in India.

Earlier this year, Tesla announced that would open a gigafactory in Mexico as the world’s most valuable automaker pushes to expand its global output.

In another news, Reliance Jio has also approached with an offer for Tesla to set up a factory in India.

Meanwhile, Musk has shared with his board that he has found a successor for the automobile company, if something were to happen to him, all of sudden. This comes after the board had doubts about Musk’s focus towards Tesla with his latest interest being social media platform Twitter.

It was testified by James Murdoch, a Tesla board director that Musk has indeed found his successor to head the electric carmaker. Musk recently also announced Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter.
