Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, declared on November 2 that 100 special mohalla clinics for women would open in the capital. He also said that an all-female workforce would be in charge of these.

He declared upon opening four “Mahila special mohalla clinics” that children under the age of 12 and women would receive free medical care at these facilities.

The mohalla clinic system, a centrepiece of the Kejriwal administration, aims to improve primary healthcare in the city.

One mohalla clinic sees 116 patients each day on average, and together, these 520 institutions see more than 60,000 patients per day, according to the Outcome Budget that was submitted to the parliament on March 25.

“Four mahila mohalla clinics, special clinics for women where gynaecological services, tests and medicines will be available free of cost for them and children under the age of 12 years, are being opened today. In the first phase, 100 such clinics will be opened for women and children,” Kejriwal said.

The AAP Chief, however, did not comment on a timeline for the opening of these clinics.

“It was felt that there needed to be some facilities that are exclusively for women and therefore, based on the needs of women in Delhi, such facilities are being opened on a large-scale,” he said.

The first four clinics have opened at Munirka’s Basti Vikas Kendra JJ Camp, the Sector-4 DIZ neighbourhood, Kondli’s Sapera Basti, and Okhla’s DJB Sewage Pumping Station Batla House.
