BMC warns of huge surge in COVID-19 cases, ramps up testing in Mumbai

BMC has further warned that the cases are likely to rise during the monsoon.

On Wednesday, June 1 the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that the testing for the COVID-19 virus will be ramped up due to a surge in Covid positive cases in Mumbai.

The positivity rate in Mumbai has jumped to 6%. BMC has further warned that the cases are likely to rise during the monsoon. “With monsoon around the corner, we will now see a rapid rise in symptomatic cases,” warned the civic body.

On Tuesday, 506 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in the city. The highest count since February 6. No fresh COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in recent days. As the restrictions imposed due to the virus outbreak have been withdrawn people have become quite carefree resulting in an increase in the COVID-19 cases.
