Sanjay Raut, a leader of the Shiv Sena and a Rajya Sabha member, was granted bail on Wednesday by a special PMLA court in Mumbai in connection with a money laundering case involving the Patra Chawl redevelopment project. Additionally granted bail in the case was his alleged Pravin Raut.

The judge ordered each defendant to post a $25,000 bail bond. The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which detained Saamana editor and Rajya Sabha member Raut in July of this year on suspicion of money laundering related to the reconstruction of the Patra Chawl in suburban Goregaon, has asked for a stay of the order’s implementation.

The additional solicitor general has asked for a temporary halt to the implementation of the bail order so that the ED can file an appeal with a higher court against the Mumbai PMLA court’s ruling.
