According to Reuters, which cited a source from the Daily Mail, British MPs are attempting to remove Prime Minister Liz Truss from office this week despite a warning from Downing Street that doing so may lead to a general election.

According to the news agency through Daily Mail, more than 100 British lawmakers who are members of the ruling Conservative Party are prepared to deliver letters of no confidence to Graham Brady, the chairman of the committee that oversees the Conservative Party’s leadership election.

Since its 2016 referendum to leave the European Union, Britain has lost three prime ministers as a result of a political crisis.

The Daily Mail article, which was cited by the news agency, indicated that the MPs would press Brady to either warn Truss that “her time is up” or to alter the party bylaws to permit an instant vote of confidence in her leadership.

Many MPs have swung against Truss, but Graham is reportedly fighting the change, saying that Truss and newly appointed Chancellor Jeremy Hunt should have a chance to present an economic strategy in a budget on October 31.

Additionally, The Times reported that several legislators had undertaken private conversations about removing Truss and installing a new leader.

Truss, who gained the leadership of the Conservative Party last month on a platform of tax reform, is now fighting for her political life after abandoning crucial elements of the agenda.

The disorder has increased the party’s displeasure as it trails the opposition Labour Party in surveys.

According to the Daily Mail, Truss will meet with moderate Tory MPs this week in an effort to prevent a leadership revolt amid an impending crisis.
