The extremely contagious virus was discovered for the first time in northwest China. On the other hand, according to Li Shujian, deputy head of the regional disease prevention and control centre, the subvariant BA.5.1.7 was discovered for the first time in the Chinese mainland, as reported by Global Times. The National Health Commission announced on Tuesday that China recorded 2,249 new Covid-19 infections on October 10, of which 491 were symptomatic and 1,758 were asymptomatic.
