Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is all set to visit India from September 5-8.They are expected to chalk cooperation agreements in crucial areas like connectivity, trade and sharing of river waters. Hasina will meet both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu and President Jagdeep Dhankar on the second day of her state visit and S Jaishankar, who is the External Affairs minister will also talk to her. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that this visit is in furtherance of the constant high level of engagement between the two countries in the recent years. He said, “The forthcoming visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will further strengthen the multifaceted relationship between the two countries based on strong historical and cultural ties and mutual trust and understanding,”.
As far as particulars are concerned, the two countries will sign an interim agreement at the ministerial-level meeting of the India-Bangladesh Joint Rivers Commission held in New Delhi on August 25. In total, India and Bangladesh share 54 rivers and tributaries, seven of which are chalked out for developing a framework of water-sharing agreements.
