PM Modi will kick off the year-long commemoration on the 125th anniversary of the great freedom warrior Alluri Sitaram Raju’s birth and will also unveil a 30-foot-tall bronze statue of the tribal chief. Raju, who was born on July 4, 1897, is famous for his battle with the British to defend the rights of the indigenous inhabitants in the Eastern Ghats.

Raju was the leader of the 1922 Rampa Rebellion, which the locals referred to as “Manyam Veerudu.”

In order to commemorate the occasion for an entire year, the government has prepared a series of initiatives. The statement claimed that Raju’s birthplace at Pandrangi in the Vizianagaram district and the police station would be restored to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Chintapalli Police Station attack, which served as the rebellion’s catalyst.
