Sensex soars over 600 points, Nifty beyond 15,850

On Monday, amid strong signs from the international markets, Indian equity indexes traded higher in opening trades, extending their gains for the third straight day. After Wall Street made a significant comeback at the conclusion of last week, Asian stocks increased on an improved risk sentiment.

The local indices got off to a higher start, according to trends on the Nifty Futures on the Singapore Exchange (SGX Nifty).

Early in the session, the 30-share BSE Sensex rose 616 points, or 1.17 percent, to trade at 53,344 while the larger NSE Nifty gained 186 points, or 1.19 percent, to trade at 15,886.

As the Nifty Midcap 100 increased 1.10 percent and the small-cap index increased 1.18 percent, mid- and small-cap shares were trading strongly today.

Early in the session, the 30-share BSE Sensex rose 616 points, or 1.17 percent, to trade at 53,344 while the larger NSE Nifty gained 186 points, or 1.19 percent, to trade at 15,886.

As the Nifty Midcap 100 increased 1.10 percent and the small-cap index increased 1.18 percent, mid- and small-cap shares were trading strongly today.

The National Stock Exchange’s 15 sector indexes were all trading in positive territory. The NSE platform was outperformed by the sub-indices Nifty IT and Nifty Metal, which increased by as much as 2.67 and 1.63 percent, respectively.

The top Nifty gainer in terms of individual stocks was Tech Mahindra, whose share price rose 4% to 1,020.45. Among the winners were HCL Tech, Infosys, JSW Steel, and L&T.

1,219 equities on the BSE were rising while 286 were falling, contributing to a positive total market breadth.

Every stock that made up the Sensex was trading higher. One of the top gainers on the 30-share BSE index was TechM, followed by HCL Tech, Infosys, L&T, Wipro, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finance, IndusInd Bank, TCS, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finserv, and Dr. Reddy’s.

Additionally, shares of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), the largest domestic financial investor and insurer in the nation, increased 0.39 percent to trade at INR 664.25.

On Friday, the Sensex increased by 462 points or 0.88 percent to end the day at 52,728 while the Nifty gained 143 points or 0.92 percent to end the day at 15,699.
