The night before he was killed, the slain Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri received a threat call from the UK, and his family continued to get them, his son revealed on Saturday. Suri was shot and killed on Friday in Amritsar, Punjab.

The caller identified himself as Amritpal Singh and addressed Manik Suri, the son of the Sena leader, saying he intended to send some men and that the attack on his father was “arranged.”

“There was a threat call the night before the incident. My father received a call from the UK. The caller introduced himself as Amritpal Singh and said he was sending some men and that his ‘deal is done’. It was planned, four bullets hit him,” Manik was quoted as saying by the news agency ANI.

Along with other things, Suri demanded that his father be given the title of a martyr and those careless officers be fired, adding that his family would not cremate the politician until his demands were accomplished.

“We’re (Suri’s family) receiving threatening calls from outside. We’ve told the DGP and given it in writing too. We’re demanding the status of a martyr for my father, suspension of negligent officers and security and another accommodation for us. Won’t cremate him until our demands are met,” he added.

Suri was attacked in front of Gopal Mandir on Majitha Road, which is one of Amritsar’s busiest streets. An ANI report stated that the incident occurred as the Sena leader and a few other party leaders were holding a rally.

Gaurav Yadav, director general of police (DGP) for Punjab, stated that all potential theories and conspiracies will be looked into in relation to the Sena leader’s slaying.

Along with the arrest of the suspect, weapons were seized.
