Nishimoto and Yamaguchi ruled on their home ground in the Japan Open with both of them clinching the men’s and women’s single titles. Nishimoto who is ranked at World no. 21 stunned the world no. 4 ranked Taiwanese player Chou Tien Chen to claim his first major international title. This triumph came after the disappointed faced by the Japan’s home crowd due to the defeat of Japan’s number two seed Kento Momota lost in the first round in the first week. Nishimoto remarked that “I was very worried going into the third game. He’s a veteran player with a lot of skill who knows how to play cleverly so I had to be careful right till the end.”
Yamaguchi won the second gold medal for Japan after beating the South Korean An Se-Young 21-9, 21-15 in the women’s final. She successfully defended her world title last week in Tokyo and she still had enough left in the tank to win her third tournament of the year.
