Meta will be soon launching its own text based app, in competition to Twitter. The new app is moving closer to launch as few of the creators are being briefed on how the app, which is tentatively titled Barcelona, will function.
Based on a (somewhat blurry) example I got, Meta's new app looks a lot like Twitter.
So, could this take over all the Twitter screenshots we've been seeing on the Feed lately? Maybe.
It’s impossible to predict how audiences will respond but this could be an alternative. pic.twitter.com/xgQa1kUjCl

The images of the new app by Meta has been shared by Lisa Haberman, which shows a simpler version of Twitter, as it is more aligned with a chat based feed.
The move is considered as deliberate, as over the past few years, more and more conversations on Instagram have been moving to DMs. The users have been using the main feed as a discovery platform, as they move away from public posting activity.
Keeping this in mind, the new app is like a giant group chat which anybody can join, similar to Twitter, but with a tint of Instagram.
In terms of specifics, the users can sign onto the new app using their Instagram credentials, which is their username, and they can also sync their followers count. They are allowed to write up to 500 characters. You will also be allowed to share pictures, links, and videos of up to 5 minutes in length.
