MEA S Jaishankar meets Kiwi FM, discusses Indo-Pacific, Ukraine War
It is Mr. Jaishankar’s first trip to New Zealand in his capacity as minister of external affairs.

Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, and Nanaia Mahuta, his counterpart from New Zealand, held “warm and fruitful” discussions on Thursday during which they discussed global issues such as the Indo-Pacific region and the conflict in Ukraine.
It is Mr. Jaishankar’s first trip to New Zealand in his capacity as minister of external affairs.

“Warm and productive talks with New Zealand Foreign Minister @NanaiaMahuta this afternoon. Two societies, respectful of tradition and culture, are seeking to forge a more contemporary relationship,” Mr Jaishankar tweeted after the meeting.

“Appreciated the exchange of views on (issues of) international concerns such as the Indo-Pacific and the Ukraine conflict. Value our working together in multilateral forums including the UN and Commonwealth,” he added.
Mr. Jaishankar also brought up the problem of Indian students affected by COVID restrictions in New Zealand and encouraged prompt processing of visas for those wishing to study there right now.
India ranks second in terms of the number of foreign nationals enrolling in higher education in New Zealand in a range of subjects, including computer technology, hospitality, science, engineering, and architecture.
He also met Associate Minister for foreign affairs Aupito William Sio during his visit.

On Wednesday, Mr. Jaishankar spoke with notable citizens of the nation and met Minister Priyanca Radhakrishnan, who is of Indian descent.
Ms Radhakrishnan is New Zealand’s Minister for Community and Voluntary Sector, Diversity, Inclusion and Ethnic Communities, and Youth.
“Good to meet Minister @priyancanzlp today in Auckland. Thank her for an interactive session with prominent personalities of New Zealand. Committed to furthering our relationship,” he tweeted.
Mr Jaishankar is on a week-long visit to New Zealand and Australia
