According to new maps, the invasion of Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin, which started in February, has been going on for more than eight months, but Moscow’s momentum appears to be waning. The largest city to be taken by Vladimir Putin’s soldiers since the Kremlin began its invasion of Ukraine on February 24 was Kherson, which Russia withdrew from last week.
James Longman, an international correspondent for ABC News, posted two maps on Twitter comparing the state of Ukraine in March and November. According to the maps, Ukraine has reclaimed 50% of its former area.
James Longman tweeted the maps saying, “This is why Ukraine thinks total military victory is possible. For them, negotiating means giving Putin territory. But they’ve already won back 50% of what he took at the start of the war.”

The Ukrainian flag was raised in the city’s centre as Ukraine reclaimed control of Kherson. On a visit to Kherson on Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russian forces there of committing war crimes before they left last week.
“We are moving forward,” Volodymyr Zelensky said in an address to Ukrainian troops, thanking NATO and other allies for their continuing support in the war against Russia.
“We are ready for peace, peace for all our country,” Volodymyr Zelensky said.
