Kanika Kapoor seems to be reliving her life after she wedded businessman Gautam Hathiramani in London on May 20 according to Indian traditions. Recently, she took to social media to share photos of her court wedding with Gautam. This is the Baby Doll singer’s second marriage. Earlier, she was hitched to London-based Raj Chandok and got separated in 2012.

In an interview with BT, Kanika said, “I am someone who hails from Lucknow. I have been brought up in a very big joint family. I grew around my great grandparents, grandparents, my uncles and aunts and even my parents, who have lived a happy married life throughout. I have always believed in the institution of marriage and I understand that sometimes you can be in a marriage with a partner who doesn’t understand you and vice versa. And it is not anybody’s fault. I think it is very important to be graceful and move on.”

Kanika says that she also shares a graceful equation with her previous spouse. She explains, “My ex-partner and I have continued to have a very graceful relationship. He wishes me well and likewise. We will always be there for each other. I think that is how one needs to live and lead life without any hatred and negativity.”

The singer who got hitched at 18 years old, presently urges parents to wait to get their daughters hitched till they become independent. She opines,“I got married earlier at a very young age and today I understand this institution much better. I would urge Indian families to make sure that every girl is well educated and is standing on her own feet before being married off. Because the moment you are dependent on anybody, you will always be living with expectations and that is when you fall. If the other person is not able to lead up to your expectations, you are unhappy. I will make sure my daughters grow up into independent girls who are polite, humble, grounded and don’t wait for someone to come and pay their bills.”
