Indian Railways to come up with cost-effective meals for general coach passengers- Check details

Indian Railways made an announcement about the accessibility of affordable meals to general coach passengers. The Railway board issued an order that states that cost-friendly meals will be offered to travelers in the general coach along with packaged water. The meals would be designated on platforms in accordance with the general coach berths.

The new advancement comes in order to create a better traveling experience. The meals that will be provided to the commuters will be of two types; type one will include 7 pooris (fried tortillas) and along with dry aloo (potato) and pickle, which will be priced at Rs 20. While the second type will include North Indian food such as Chole bhature, Kulche, pao-bhaji, kulche, khichdi, rice, rajma chawal, and masala dosa, costing at Rs 50.

The board has given instructions to the respected authorities to make provisions for providing meals to the passengers along with drinking water. They are supposed to serve the meals through counters allocated near the general seating coach. The GS coaches are also known as the second-class unreserved coach.

The note issued by the Railways stated that “The meals are to be supplied from the kitchen units (Refreshment rooms – RRs and Jan Ahaars – JAs) of IRCTC.”

The locations for the counters will be decided by the Railways in order to accommodate them near the GS coaches on the platform. This extended service has been implemented on an experimental basis for 6 months.

To date, 51 stations have been provided with this facility, and from Thursday 13 more stations will be provisioned with the advancement. Railways have been making efforts to provide 200 ml of drinking water to the passengers in order to generate a better experience. Also, to make the journey convenient for the commuters in the GS coaches which are majorly overcrowded.
