India successfully test-fires Agni Prime intermediate-range ballistic missile off the coast of Odisha at 0954 hours today morning.

India successfully test-fires Agni Prime intermediate-range ballistic missile off the coast of Odisha at 0954 hours today morning.

“During the test flight, the missile travelled the maximum range and all test objectives were successfully met. With this third consecutive successful flight test of the Agni Prime missile, the accuracy and reliability of the system have been established”. Said defence officials.

“The performance of the system has been validated using the data obtained by a number of range instrumentation like Radar, Telemetry & Electro-Optical Tracking systems deployed at different locations including two down-range ships at a terminal point to cover the entire trajectory”. Added the defence officials.

The Agni Prime is an intermediate-range ballistic missile that consists of a MaRV or Manuverable Re-entry Vehicle which allows a change of course of the warhead to hit the target.

The missile has a range of 1000-2000km and can deliver multiple warheads at separate locations.
