On Friday, June 3, the government of India slammed the US state department’s annual report on international religious freedom terming it as biased. This comes a day after the report on international religious freedom was presented at the headquarters of the State Department.

The foreign ministry has issued a statement stating that the report is biased and is just ill-informed comments. “We have noted the release of US State Department 2021 Report on International Religious Freedom and ill-informed comments by senior US officials,” said the ministry of external affairs.

The report gives its own perspective regarding the status of religious freedom globally. In 2021, the minorities in India have faced challenges and have faced cases of assaults throughout the year, as per the report.

“It is unfortunate that vote bank politics is being practiced in international relations. We would urge that assessments based on motivated inputs and biased views be avoided,” the ministry further added.
