Dia Mirza: “It’s liberating to play the best roles of my life at 40”
Dia Mirza opens up on Ageism in Bollywood and believes she is getting some of the best roles of her life these days.

Dia Mirza The actress made her acting debut in Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein and has since appeared in a number of successful films such as Deewaanapan, Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge, Munna Bhai, and others, always ensuring that she offers something unique to the audience. Dia, who turned 40 in December of last year, recently came out against ageism in Bollywood, saying that the parts she is getting at her age make her feel free and strong.
Dia also claimed that with each powerful part she is cast in, she is defying the stereotype that women over 35 can only play specific types of roles. She said, “Ageism is something that we have to contend with and I am glad the opportunities that are coming my way today in so many ways have fixed this problem. It is a powerful recognition and intervention that I am playing the best parts of my life now when I am 40. This is just so amazing, liberating, empowering, and wonderful” This, according to Dia, is an indication that people in the industry are evolving. She also stated that those who are persistent, consistent, and believe in stretching their boundaries as performers would be presented with fresh possibilities.
Dia is currently filming Dhak Dhak, a film directed by Taapsee Pannu and starring Sanjana Sanghi, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Ratna Pathak Shah. She’ll also appear in Anubhav Sinha’s next film Bheed, which also stars Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar.
