CIDCO scam: Police makes first arrest in case, man-hunt begins for mastermind on run


The CBD Belapur police made its first arrest in the CIDCO employment scam. The state exchequer was duped of around Rs 2.80 crore over the last 5 years by a CIDCO employee involved in an in-house crime.

Sagar Tapadia, an assistant personnel officer at CIDCO, orchestrated the scam, with the help of information of approximately 28 fake employees to defraud the state exchequer. He is currently on  the run and the authorities are planning on to arrest him before his anticipatory bail hearing on May 30.

Senior Inspector Giridhar Gore of CBD Belapur police station stated, “Our men are out looking for him.” As per the records of FIR filed by the police, the state exchequer was duper of Rs 2.81 crore.


Suresh Mengade, who is not only DCP but also the Chief Vigilance Officer at CIDCO, said that the investigation begin a few months when he received a complaint about TDS being deducted from the complainant’s bank account, who was neither an employee of CIDCO nor did he carried out any work for the company. Hence, this raised suspicion, and they started an internal probe.
