Air India likely to place one of the largest orders in commercial aviation history: Report

Air India can order Airbus SE’s A320neo family jets or Boeing Co.’s 737 Max models, the people familiar with the matter spoke to Reuters.

According to a report by Reuters, Air India is planning to order 300 narrowbody jets, which can be the largest order in commercial aviation history. The air carrier is considering to overhaul its fleet.

Air India can order Airbus SE’s A320neo family jets or Boeing Co.’s 737 Max models, the people familiar with the matter spoke to Reuters. The estimated amount for such a large-scale deal for 300 737 Max jets could be worth $40.5 billion.

The Indian skies are dominated by Airbus. Air carriers IndiGo, Vistara and other airlines prefer jets from Airbus. But with this order from Tata-owned Air India Boeing can gain a strong foothold in the country. The delivery of 300 jets can take years or decades.

In FY2021, Talace Private Ltd acquired Air India & Air Indian Express. Talace is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Sons.
