Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress, stated on Tuesday that the party “would establish a non-BJP government” under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi in significant remarks referring to the party’s prime ministerial candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

While speaking at a public rally in Hyderabad as part of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Kharge also heavily criticised the TRS government in Telangana, and alleging that it had supported some parliamentary bills that the opposition parties had opposed and was now trying to discuss toppling the BJP government at the federal level.

They (TRS) used to assist BJP whenever we used to oppose any measure in Parliament, yet they continue to claim that they’ll bring a non-BJP administration. We will build a non-BJP administration under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership if anyone is required to do so, Kharge stated.

Before being appointed to the highest party position, Kharge avoided a question similar to the one that led to his election as president of the Congress last month.

There is a proverb ‘Bakrid mein bachenge toh Muharram mein nachenge’ Kharge added. When asked who the party’s prime ministerial face would be, Kharge had responded, “First, let these elections get over with and let me become president, then we’ll see.

Some opposition figures have made an effort to unite opposition parties against the BJP for the elections in 2024.

Rahul Gandhi said that the BJP and TRS were “working together” during his speech during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. He also claimed that state Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao indulge in “drama before elections” while being in “direct line” with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“TRS supports BJP whenever there is a bill in Parliament and diverts attention from issues raised by the opposition. TRS and BJP coordinate. While KCR, your CM, engages in drama prior to elections, PM Modi is his immediate superior. Rahul Gandhi claimed that PM Modi gave commands to your CM over the phone.

Next year, Telangana will hold assembly elections. As part of its efforts to establish a national presence, the ruling Telanagna Rashtra Samiti has chosen to change its name to Bharat Rashtra Samiti.
