In a recent development, Tesla Model Y has achieved yet another milestone of becoming the world’s highest selling car for a quarter. As per the data collected by JATO from across 53 markets worldwide, Tesla’s Model Y has topped the charts with its sales numbers for the first quarter of 2023. This makes Model Y to be the first-ever all electric all to achieve this feat.

During Q1 2023, Tesla Model Y surpassed other popular models like the Toyota Corolla and Toyota RAV4 to secure its position as the world’s highest-selling car. Tesla sold an impressive 267,200 units of Model Y globally during this period, marking a significant rise of 69 per cent, compared to the same duration in the previous year. It must be noted that the majority of the sales have been registered from China, which has surpassed even the company’s home market, USA, in terms of importance.

For the same duration, Japanese automaker Toyota’s Corolla secured second position as the world’s second highest selling car. Unlike Tesla, Toyota comes in multiple body form such as sedan, station wagon, and hatchback. The auto manufacturer witnessed a decline of 20 per cent in sales in China and 10 per cent drop in USA, which brought its sales numbers at 256,400 units.
