The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest honour given to filmmakers in India. The Directorate of Film Festivals, a unit established by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, presents it each year during the National Film Awards ceremony.

The recipient is chosen by a committee made up of prominent figures from the Indian film industry for their “great contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema.” The prize includes a medallion called the Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus), a shawl, and a cash sum of ten lakh rupees.
