The plot is based on a man who was imprisoned for over 15 years in a cell knowing nothing about his captors. When he is released he went on to take revenge for what he has gone through over the years. The film has been adapted in Hindi & English language as Zinda & Oldboy (US) respectively.

The Handmaiden is directed by Park Chan-Wook starring  Kim Tae-ri, Yong-nyeo Lee, Min-chae Yoo, Dong-hwi Lee. The story is inspired from the novel, Fingersmith.

4. Memories of Murder

Memories of Murder is based on a true story of serial killings that occurred in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province of South Korea between 1986 & 1991. The film is directed by Bong Joon-ho featuring Song Kang-ho and Kim Sang-Kyung in the lead role.

Directed by Lee Chang-dong the film is based on a short story, ‘Barn Burning from The Elephant Vanishes. The plot revolves around a delivery man who one day meets with his childhood friend, then she introduces him to a mysterious guy & things take a turn from then on. The film stars Yoo Ah-in, Steven Yeun and Jeon Jong-seo.
