Times when actors got drunk on sets to improve their performance including Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh

Ever wondered how our favourite actors manage to give such a convincing performance? Be it sad, drunk, or dance sequence, some of the actors have delivered the best performance. The trick is to get under the skin of the character but it looks like some of the actors went a little overboard.

Recently in an interview, Ranbir Kapoor revealed that he was indeed drunk on bhaang while shooting for the song Balam Pichkari in Yeh Jawaani Hain Deewani. This definitely got us curious to go in depth to learn which other actors did walk in his steps.

Vicky Kaushal in Sanju

Vicky gave a phenomenal performance as Kamli in Ranbir Kapoor starrer Sanju. One of the scene where he pleads Sunil Dutt (Paresh Rawal) to save his son from drugs have received immense praise. The scene showed the actor in drunken state when he approached the senior actor and as it turns out, Vicky actually got drunk for give a convincing performance. The actor revealed it in his interview with Rajeev Masand.

Rajkummar Rao in City Lights

Rajkummar is known for taking up challenging roles in the most versatile environment. From Pritam Vidrohi in Bareilly Ki Barfi to Johnny in Monica, O My Darling, the actor has proved his acting skills. Surprisingly, he knows his way on how to get the best out of him. He revealed it during film promotion that he had been drunk while shooting a sloshed scene in his 2014 hit movie City Lights. He took 4 to 5 vodka shots to looks completely intoxicated.

Varun Dhawan in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania

Varun and Alia are known for delivering electrifying chemistry on screen. One of their hit movies include Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, wherein Varun was actually drunk in the climax. Not many know this, but the actor was juggling between the shoots of Badlapur and HSKD and in order to look more sad, he had a few pegs before shooting the scene.

Ranveer Singh in Ram Leela

Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone is known for their hot and effortless chemistry. The real life couple stunned their fans with their performance in their first ever movie together Goliyon Ki Raas Leela: Ram Leela. The movie had an emotional scene for the couple and instead of being fake drunk, Ranveer had a few shots of vodka to make his scene realistic.

The iconic drunk scene, where Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, and R. Madhavan were seen drinking on the stairs of their hostel during late night hours, was actually shot with real alcohol. As it turns out, their little drinking party started way before shooting the scene. The actors did it to get in the groove, but instead they got drunk and started forgetting their lines which led to taking multiple takes.

Shah Rukh Khan in Devdas

SRK’s Devdas is the go-to movie for all the heartbroken aashiqs. The story and plot of the movie seemed next to perfection and SRK’s performance served as icing on the cake. But did you know what make it so convincing? Despite of being a non-drinker in real life, the actor intoxicated himself for all those scenes to crawl under the skin of his character. And it definitely, did worked out in his favour.

Aamir Khan in Raja Hindustani

Did you know that Aamir Khan consumed an entire bottle of vodka while shooting for the film Raja Hindustani? As it turns out, Aamir had never drunk before but to feel the emotional turmoil of his character Raja, Aamir washed down the whole bottle for the song Tere Ishq Mein Naachenge. It was revealed by the actor himself in interview with Karan Thapar.
