Ranveer Singh shares Prakash Padukone’s video recalling the ’83 World Cup memories

Ahead of his film 83, Ranveer Singh shared a video of badminton legend Prakash Padukone in which the latter is seen recalling the experience of the 1983 Cricket World Cup finals. India had beaten West Indies to win the World Cup for the first time in history.

Taking to Instagram, Ranveer shared a video of his father-in-law and wrote, “The Living Legend of Badminton, a World Champion himself & my dear father-in-law Prakash Padukone, cherishes the memories of the 1983 World Cup triumph! 83 released in cinemas on 24th Dec 2021, in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. Also in 3D. #ThisIs83.”

“25th June 1983, was a landmark day in the history of Indian sports. India won the world cup for the first time, most unexpectedly! We were in Denmark at that time. I was playing professional badminton. I couldn’t see the match live. Trying to get the news either from the radio or BBC. When we heard that India had won the world cup, I think it was unbelievable. India had beaten the mighty West Indies in those days. That was a turning point for Indian cricket. From what was a sport, became a religion,” Padukone says in the video.

The film revolves around the events that unfolded at the 1983 World Cup. Playing the lead Kapil Dev, Ranveer Singh is seen with his real life wife as Kapil’s wife Romi Dev. Deepika is also the co-producer of the film. The film recently premiered at the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah and received a standing ovation.

Directed by Kabir Khan, the film has a starcast of the actors like Jatin Sarna, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Sahil Khattar, Chirag Patil, Saqib Saleem, Ammy Virk, Jiiva, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Dinker Sharma, Addinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa, R Badree and Pankaj Tripathi.
